The Housing Authority of the City of York, South Carolina (YHA) was chartered by the City on March 10, 1970, to provide decent, safe and sanitary housing to low-income families in York, SC. By contract with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as provided by the U.S. Housing Act of 1937, the Authority, a Public Housing Agency (PHA) is governed by a local five member board of Commissioners. These Commissioners are appointed by the City and each serve a staggered five-year term. The board elects a chairperson and a vice-chairperson each year at their annual meeting.

YHA operates the Public Housing Program, the Housing Choice Program (section 8) and a Capital Fund Program. The YHA is also the managing agent for the Clover Housing Authority, Clover South Carolina, which operates 48 units of section 8 new construction.
