The Housing Authority of the City of York, South Carolina (YHA) was chartered by the City on March 10, 1970, to provide decent, safe and sanitary housing to low-income families in York, SC.  By contract with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as provided by the U.S. Housing Act of 1937, the Authority, a Public Housing Agency (PHA) is governed by a local five member board of Commissioners.  These Commissioners are appointed by the City and each serve a staggered five-year term. The board elects a chairperson and a vice-chairperson each year at their annual meeting.

YHA operates 124 public housing units and 233 Section 8 Vouchers within York County assisting about 835 people.  Funding comes from HUD, local rent receipts and grants.  YHA operates the Public Housing Program, the Housing Choice Program (section 8) and a Capital Fund Program.  The YHA is also the managing agent for the Clover Housing Authority, Clover South Carolina,  which operates 48 units of section 8 new construction.

YHA is in partnership with the local police department and assists in events within the City of York. National Night Out is an annual event which takes place the second Tuesday of August.

The YHA will offer employment opportunities to residents when positions are available and if the resident is qualified for that particular position.
